Last weekend, my mom sent me on a mission. She wanted to make elderflower-syrup, an old summer tradition, and didn't have enough time to collect the flowers herself, so my presence came in handy for her. Since it was a bright and sunny day, I didn't complain and went on my way. Dressed as if I could take off on a safari any minute, because weather as beautiful as it was that day is rather rare here in Belgium and I wanted to take advantage of it.

The shorts you see here are from one of my favourite secondhand stores here in Belgium, Think Twice. They have two locations in my city, Ghent, along with a few others in Brussels, Antwerp, Bruges and Leuven. The store offers monthly discounts (ranging from -30% to only one euro per piece) before changing their collection and last summer, I got these for about five euros. Sadly, I just hung them in my closet to forget about them altogether. See, the problem with these is that they are not the typical, tight fitting shorts I normally would buy, but a longer, more baggy version. And because I'm not blessed with endless legs, I didn't think I could really pull these off. Sometimes you just have to accept that not all pieces of clothing will complement your bodytype, and that that's okay. But still, I couldn't resist buying these because the number of shorts I owned before was lower than low (being: one pair). So, a few weeks ago, I wanted to give them one last try. I was cleaning out my closet, deciding what to keep and what to throw away. These were a though choice. I put them on, didn't really like the way they made my legs look, tried to roll them up and BOOM: problem solved. Now, I actually like the way they make my legs (and let's be honest, my butt) look!

I like pairing these with a blouse that I got in Berlin (for less than 2 euros!!! very exciting). It's this warm yellow colour and one of the softest pieces of clothing I've ever owned. I wanted to keep this outfit breezy and casual, while not being too simple, so I dressed it up a bit by adding a ribbon I found in my mother's closet, which complements the colours of the blouse nicely, I think. I wasn't wearing shoes on this day, because I like walking barefoot and didn't really bring home an acceptable pair home from my dorm, but I would probably pair this outfit with some simple black, strapped sandals or earthy-toned espadrilles. Last but not least, the backpack. My girlfriend bought this for me when we were in Antwerp. It's a leather (yes, I know. I personally don't mind buying leather and wool when it isn't contributing to the whole supply and demand-situation, but I understand some people do) backpack, in a beautiful chocolate brown. What I really like about this one, is that it's not only pretty but also very practical. It consists of two main compartments. In the biggest one I can easily fit a few books, my wallet, a drink and random stuff I throw in without looking, as well as a small laptop. Great for students and working people alike! The second compartment is designed as an oversized wallet, with a holder for your phone, your pens and your cards, but there's also some extra space for flyers, a notebook, you name it. And it goes with practically any piece of clothing I own, which is always a plus.

That's all that I was wearing this day, I hope you liked it!
