OOTD #4: flying cows and stuff

My girlfriend and I went on a little trip this weekend. Nothing too special, but we both missed the city where we live during the schoolyear and wanted to explore some things we didn't have the chance to see during and between semesters. We ate some vegan cake, drank some coffee, thrifted a bit and visited Ghent's design museum.

Since we were planning to walk quite a bit during our visit, I wanted to wear something comfortable. I went for the basic jeans and T-shirt combination, because what's more wearable than that? This T-shirt is a gem my girlfriend found in her dad’s closet. I like to wear it from time to time because the print makes absolutely no sense, so I love it. I mean, a cow flying over the skyline of New York? I don’t see the connection.

I don’t own any graphic tees, but this one makes me reconsider that decision (even though it’s not really a decision, I’m just a bit picky). I love the colour combination in this shirt, blue and yellow are always a match made in heaven if you ask me.

That’s why I chose to pair the T-shirt with a simple, but essential, pair of high waisted mom-like blue jeans. I found these at the Episode-store in Antwerp. I was hesitant to try them on because they originally had star-shaped pearls on them, which is not really my style. But after I found out how easy it was to get rid of those stars, I grabbed them and tried them on. They fit perfectly! I’ve been looking for a pair of jeans like these for so long and I’m stoked I finally found some. These are the perfect example of how sometimes, when thrifting, a piece that doesn't look quite right can be transformed in something straight out of your dreams. Although the use of the word 'transformed' is a bit exaggerated in this case, since I just cut off some pearls. You get the idea.

The glasses I’m wearing are from the same Episode I mentioned earlier, but they actually belong to my girlfriend. Surprise surprise, I borrowed them from her because I thought they match my outfit pretty well, due to the yellowish hue of the glasses. Normally, round glasses don't go very well with the shape of my face but these work pretty well. They look a bit silly on, but that's maybe the main reason I like them so much. Fashion doesn't always have to be pretty, does it?

Don't buy these type of glasses if you want to protect your eyes from the sun. They won't help a thing. I don't mind, since I'm not really big on wearing sun (or any other type of) glasses, but for these, I gladly make an exception.

I’m trying to wear more accessories such as earrings and rings, since they can really make or break an outfit. But since I’m not yet used to it all, I’m starting off slow with simple pieces like these silver hoops. I found them at a random market in Antwerp. These are perfect for someone like me, who developed an irrational fear for having saggy earlobes and prefers light earrings. They're also the perfect size, quite a bit bigger than every other hoop I own, but not so big that it looks like I could start tango-dancing any minute.

I’m a bit ashamed to say this, but the shoes I’m wearing also once belonged to my girlfriend. Yes, I like stealing clothes because it’s such an easy way to spice up your wardrobe without spending extra money. But in my defense, she hasn’t worn these for ages and didn’t want to throw them out since they are still in perfect state. They’re black ankle boots with a very low heel and that’s about everything I have to say about them. Simple, not too elegant nor too clunky, a great staple piece to have in your closet. I actually prefer wearing white sneakers with this outfit, but I currently don't own a pair. I've looked into a brand called Veja, which produces sustainable and ethically made sneakers. Not all of their shoes are vegan, but they have a seperate line of non-leather sneakers. And, also pretty important, I think they look really cool.
